We started our cruise in Barbados on the ocean village our friends where on the Royal Caribbean International’s cruising the Caribbean for the 15 day trip on these ocean cruise liners, with some hard core bartering, with prices starting at around £900 per person making this a fantastic deal. The Empress of the Sea’s had just been newly renovated and had so much for us to enjoy, while sailing from one beautiful island to another. Sailing on cruise ship offer’s such a brilliant experience; some would say its ultimate holiday.
Of the many destinations is St. Maarten, Philipsburg, which is located a few hundred miles north of Barbados. I met my sister who lives in St Barts, came to visit us by ferry we meet in Philipsburg the capital which is on the Dutch side of St. Maarten. Philipsburg environment in is a mixture of West Indian and European sophistication that you will find exquisitely attractive. As all duty free ports, the shops were packed with tourists looking for the electronics, gold, diamonds, duty free bargains only found in this region. We travel across the island to the French side which had a different look, and I was surprised to fine a McDonalds
Note: The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the official currency of the Eastern Caribbean, The US dollar is also widely accepted.
We then travelled to St. Johns, Antigua which has some fantastic beaches unfortunately most of the stores were closed, I will go into deeper detail in another post about the various islands. Then we sailed onto Basseterre, St. Kitts, this was where my father was born in a village name after his family. it was such an amazing place, the mountains dominated the middle of the island and the clothes factories had exclusive dress found in Harrods of London I was told that they where made from the finest hand made fabrics in the world there was so much family that I didn’t want to leave. we also found out that we where related to some very famous historic family’s

Next day we sailed onto Castries, St. Lucia, the island with the twin peaks, which looks very close to each other in photos but are some 3 miles apart, and a fantastic volcano where you can enjoy the world’s only drive in volcanic crater.
Our next stop was Barbados. Where we cruised on the Ocean Village. And met by our friends from the Royal Caribbean, cruise ship. Barbados has a very English look about it. we spent our morning on the submarine tour, for about £60 each plus transport to the mariner, you are taken to the submarine centre which was booked as an excursion Tip: Book in advance before you travel the price is half, and from the cruise ship to the submarine dock is a 5 minute walk.
From Barbados, we sailed to the isle of Margarita, a Venezuelan tropical paradise also known as the “pearl of the Caribbean,” with at least fifty different beaches, now this place was something else, I guess because it was South America it was so different from the Caribbean we saw giant cactus plants and red sand similar to the cowboy films, if your looking for the cheap designer wear then this is the place, the markets on the way to the capital were selling Nike gear for a quarter of the normal prices, hard to tell if it was fake goods.
Our friends on the Royal Caribbean International went to Curacao largest of the six islands of the Netherlands Antilles. We travel on to Grenada the island of spice, known for its nutmeg. And met more family who owned acres and acres of land that was the day the ship nearly sailed with out us…
